Harp Lessons

If there's one thing I understand about life, it's that we are all individuals with unique backgrounds, thought processes, and learning styles. My approach to teaching reflects that understanding by providing students of all ages with a safe learning space ruled by respect, freedom of thought and artistic expression. I strive to engage and challenge each of my students by encouraging them to develop their individual voice as an artist.

My personal instruction is matched with flexible curriculum for beginning to advanced harpists from ages 4 to 94 and beyond.

I believe that each person is capable of becoming a harpist through dedicated practice and supportive instruction. Whether working with my private studios in Atlanta or teaching with the Urban Youth Harp Ensemble; my aim is to excite learning by using the harp as a tool to harness focus, dedication, and expression. I stress the importance of becoming a well-rounded musician by providing students with an understanding of music theory and music history as it relates to the pieces they are studying. My work serving as a music theory instructor at the Young Artists Harp Seminar and The Bandtastic Summer Band Camp has allowed me to gain experience in a classroom setting and as a one-on-one music theory coach.

In my instruction of the harp, I focus on the importance of health, wellness, and the development of a natural technique. As each hand, arm, and body is different, my aim is to find the playing position that promotes maximum relaxation and comfort for each individual student. My teaching style is influenced by my personal study under the tutelage of two world-renowned instructors, Judy Loman (Faculty at The Glenn Gould School and University of Toronto) and Elisabeth Remy Johnson (Faculty at Georgia State University and Emory University).

The repertoire studied by each student is aimed at matching individual interests and advancing playing and technical ability. Whether working on Bach or Beyonce, I’m excited about taking my students to the next level in their love of the harp and of music.

I am currently accepting beginning to intermediate level students who are enthusiastic about studying the harp. Please fill out the contact form for information on rates and to schedule your first lesson.
